“A review of a great local credit union that serves the city of Mosinee Wisconsin and surrounding areas."
By: Allan R Kirby
Why we review Credit Unions:
Credit Unions are often considered geographically small, irrelevant, and just do not have the depth and breadth of services that big banks have to succeed in today's technology-driven world. Mysmallbank.com believes differently.
In fact, Mysmallbank.com believes Credit Unions provide a superior customer service experience, with attractive products and services and provide their members' competitive savings and mortgage rates. Additionally, Credit Unions provide critical support to small business owners and the agricultural community which is often left behind by the big banks. For example, by leverage local deposits from its members, a local Credit Unions can provide loans back to local businesses and customers from the same community. A win for the entire community.
Mysmallbank.com feels compelled to find the best credit unions and community banks in order to write a small review. These reviews are to help you learn more about community banks, possibly one that's in your area that you might be interested in. In this review we are choosing the following local Credit Union:
Location: Mosinee
Headquartered: 975 Indianhead Drive
Branches: 5
Year Established: 1935
History:
Valley communities credit union has a long history going all the way back to 1935 when the state of Wisconsin approved the charter of the Mosinee Paper Credit Union. The new credit union was to serve the employees of Mosinee Paper Corporation and their families.
Between their opening in 1935 to the 1970's Mosinee Paper, Credit Union steadily grew and would eventually expand membership to add those families and individuals living or working in the city of Mosinee. Later in the 1970s, membership was opened to those living in the surrounding townships.
Then in 1987, the credit union started to grow by acquiring Murray Employees Credit Union in Wausau, and the Co-Ci Credit Union, in Stevens Point. Almost 10 years later Dairymen's Credit Union in Junction City, merged with the credit union, and just two years later they changed their name to Valley Communities Credit Union. The name change was to reflect that the credit union provides services to service to those who live and work in the central Wisconsin valley.
Finally, the credit union merged with Thorogood credit union in 2006 and opened a new office in Kronenwetter. Today Valley Communities CU has close to $181 million in assets, five branches, and nearly 15,663 members. ibanknet
Valley Communities CU is located in the city of Mosinee and surrounding areas. Mosinee is in Marathon County, Wisconsin with a population of 3,988 at the 2010 census.
Finally, we found that Valley Communities Credit Union is a federally insured credit union through NCUA (Note 1).
Review:
Mysmallbank.com did take the time to read reviews on Valley Communities Credit Union (VCCU) knowing that reviews only provide a partial picture of the Credit Union. What we mean by this is that reviews do not always reflect the true banking experience you will receive at one of their branches.
When looking at Valley Communities Credit Union reviews, it was great to see members saying things such as "Amazing people always welcoming and very helpful. Definitely recommend this bank" or "Great credit union!! I have done business with them for almost 20 years and I have been extremely happy. I love my credit union!!!" Clearly, members feel they are getting the great attention they are looking for at a credit union. Additionally, VCCU is BBB accredited with an A+ rating with a very high customer satisfaction rate. In fact, there were no major issues or concerns highlighted by reviewers of this credit union. Finally, after doing some rate comparisons we found VCCU does provide very competitive loan rates to meet members' needs.
Secondly looking at employee reviews working at the credit union seemed to be relatively positive. The only concern I found was pay, however, upon taking the time at looking financial wages from census information for Wisconsin, Valley Communities Credit Union wages do appear to be competitive. Overall Valley Communities Credit Union appears to have a great working environment. We all know that a good working environment reflects well with the members' experience.
With their almost perfect customer review score with the Better Business Bureau, high customer standards, and positive employee reviews, we are giving Valley Communities Credit Unions the designation of Excellent choice, Credit Union. (Note 2) . So if you're looking for a great community-based credit union and you live or plan to live in the areas Valley Communities Credit Union serves, this could be a great financial institution for you.
