top credit union, Silver State Schools Credit Union (SSSCU) reviews of a great las vegas credit union.

Credit Unions are often considered geographically small, irrelevant and just do not have the depth and breadth of services that big banks have to succeed in today's technology driven world. Mysmallbank.com believes differently.

In fact Mysmallbank.com believes Credit Unions provide a superior customer service experience. As well as attractive products and services and provide its members competitive savings and mortgage rates. Additionally Credit Unions provide critical support to small businesses owners and the agricultural community which is often left behind by the big banks. For example, by leverage local deposits from its members, a local Credit Unions can provide loans back to local businesses and customers from the same community. A win for the entire community.

Mysmallbank.com feels compelled to find the best credit unions and community banks in order to write a small review. These reviews are to help you learn more about community banks, possibly one that's in your area that you might be interested in. In this review we are choosing the following local Credit Union:

Location: Las Vegas

Headquartered: PO Box 12037, NV

Branches: 9.

Year Established: 1951.

History:

As described on their website: In 1951, Silver State Schools CU was created on December 2, 1950. A group of seven members submitted an organization certificate to form "Clark County Teachers Federal Credit Union." On January 2, 1951 approval was received with each of the seven members investing $5.00, bringing the total initial assets to $35.00.

The founder of Silver State Schools CU was Harold McKay who hailed from Kansas and became a Clark County teacher in the 1940's. He taught business education at Las Vegas High School and also at Rancho. Harold can be described as an organizer and a doer. Every initiative he undertook automatically received a full measure of his own time and effort. Harold provided the impetus to get the Credit Union organized. He served on the Board as Treasurer, and also as the non-paid manager of the fledgling Credit Union. In fact, at that time, members could access the Credit Union anytime just by locating Harold and his briefcase. It can be said that Harold never lost interest in the Credit Union he founded in 1951. Until his death, he was a regular attendee at all annual meetings. He lived the idea of credit unions: "Once a member always a member."

Currently Silver State Schools CU has $829 million in assets, nine branches and nearly 54,734 members. ibanknet

SSSCU operates in the city of Las Vegas, a very notable city, As per wikipedia, The city bills itself as "The Entertainment Capital of the World", and is famous for its mega casino-hotels and associated activities. It is a top three destination in the United States for business conventions and a global leader in the hospitality industry, claiming more AAA Five Diamond hotels than any other city in the world. Today, Las Vegas annually ranks as one of the world's most visited tourist destinations.

“Interesting Facts about Las Vegas: Legalize gambling in Nevada was first passed in March of 1931. One of Nevada's most famous tourist attractions is a public works project: The Hoover Dam. It is still considered the largest single public works project in U.S. history.

Finally we found that Silver State Credit Union is not a federally insured credit union through NCUA (Note 1), SSSCU is however insured through American Share Insurance (ASI) which is a privately held deposit guarantee corporation (Note 2) .

Reviews:

Mysmallbank.com did take the time to read reviews on Silver State Credit Union (SSCU) knowing that reviews only provide a partial picture of the Credit Union. What we mean by this is that reviews do not always reflect the true banking experience you will receive at one of their branches.

When looking at Silver State Schools Credit Union's reviews, we found the reviews varied from site to site but overall the reviews tended to reflect positively towards the credit union. What stood out with this particular credit union is their attempts to reach out to customers who provided negative reviews. This is very positive in our opinion and shows excellent customer relations. Regardless of the experience a current or former customer has, Silver State Schools shows they are willing to address customer concerns and to take corrective action if required.

Secondly looking at employee reviews working at the credit union seemed to be relatively high. This proves that Silver State Credit Union has a great working environment and we all know that good working environment reflects well with the members experience.

People Over Profit Foundation

Adding to the excellent reviews and customer relations we find Silver State Schools Credit Union (SSSCU) is also a credit union that wants to give back to the community. They have created an employee organized non profit foundation called People over profit. As stated on their website The POP foundation "focuses on improving the community through service and action, and it has grown over time to include representatives from each branch and department. Together, volunteers actively support organizations including the Children's Miracle Network, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and Clark County School District Focus Schools. Silver State Schools CU founded the People Over Profit Foundation a charitable arm of the Credit Union, the Foundation’s primary focus is on elevating education across Nevada in order to prepare students to enter the workforce."

We also found that a recent news article where "Silver State Schools Credit Union (SSSCU) has committed $150,000 to assist the Clark County School District (CCSD) in the purchase of Chromebooks for students. The need has been demonstrated since school closures were mandated by Governor Steve Sisolak due to COVID-19 social distancing recommendations. The Chromebooks will help give students across Clark County access to distance learning opportunities and the ability to continue their studies while the school closure is still in effect. The contribution will provide Chromebooks to over 1,500 students who otherwise may not have the necessary hardware to connect with their teachers during this time."

Given the customer and employee reviews; as well as their social responsibility through POP foundation and ongoing support to local schools, we are giving Silver State Schools Credit Union a designation of Excellent choice, Credit Union. (Note 3) So if you're looking for a great community based credit union and you live or plan to live in the areas Silver State Credit Union serves, this could be a great financial institution for you.
